BURLINGTON, WA – Here is the statement from Burlington-Edison School District Superintendent Laurel Browning regarding the cancellation of all spring athletic events from today through at least April 12, 2020.

***Athletic Competitions Cancelled***
March 12, 2020

Dear students, families and staff,

As you know, a number of districts in Washington have decided to close schools and/or activities in the past few days. The durations of these responses vary from district to district and are certainly subject to change.

Effectively immediately, the Burlington-Edison School District is cancelling all cocurricular athletic competitions to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We are following the lead of numerous health and safety experts in taking this step, and we do not do it lightly. There will be no athletic competitions until at least April 12, and potentially beyond that date.

● High school practices will continue as normal tomorrow, Friday, March 13. ● Starting Monday, March 16, the high school will continue to hold limited practices with no spectators allowed. Practice times and dates will be communicated to student athletes and families by their coaches. This is subject to change with developing information.

The remaining season and competitions are being evaluated by the league, conference and WIAA.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this evolving situation.

Sincerely,

Laurel W. Browning – Superintendent, Burlington-Edison School District
