SPOKANE, WA – After a stellar third quarter of team defense allowed the Lady Braves to outscore St. George’s 22-5 in the period en-route to a 56-40 win last night in the quarterfinals of the WIAA Class 2B Girls High School Basketball Tournament at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, La Conner will tangle with Tri-Cities Prep in tonight’s semi-finals, and we invite you to listen to our live webcast of the game here at “THE HOME of the La Conner Braves and Lady Braves”, and also available at our recently acquired domains:,, and

La Conner (21-3, #3 RPI) will need a similar defensive effort for four quarters tonight when they face Tri-Cities Prep (26-1, #2 RPI), led by sophomore sensation Talia Von Oelhoffen, who has skills at this level that this reporter can only describe by comparing her to three of the most complete and versatile stars in the history of the game, Larry Bird, Magic Johnsen, and LeBron James.

No, she’s not the equivalent of the first two NBA Hall of Fame members, nor LeBron, but as far as high school girls basketball goes, she is one of the most talented players we’ve seen in a sportscasting career spanning 43 years. Last night she scored half of her team’s 44 first half points as the Jaguars built a 44-16 intermission lead before beating Brewster 75-43 in the final quarterfinal game of the tournament.

Thankfully for La Conner, basketball is a team sport with five players on the court for each side, and while Von Oelhoffen is in a class of her own and receives sufficient support from fellow sophomore Mckenna Martinez, who tallied 21 points to Von Oelhoffens 28 last night, La Conner has a balanced attack, the Lady Braves play excellent defense, and will back down to no one nor shy-away from any challenge they face. Tonight, they will face their biggest challenge to date, with a date with destiny and the privilege of playing for a state championship tomorrow night going to the winner.

Presented by THE SWINOMISH TRIBE and SKAGIT ROOFING, tonight’s webcast will start at 8:40 p.m. with the Skagit Roofing Countdown to Tip-off , which will include the Leaded Coffee Company Starting Lineups prior to tip-off, which is scheuduled for 9 p.m., but could be later depending on the length of the preceding games on the same court.

Along with our two awesome title sponsors, our webcasts of La Conner High School basketball are also supported by these other GREAT businesses, including (alphabetically); The Anacortes Marathon Petroleum Refinery, Angie’s Bail Bonds, Balance Point Physical Therapy, Conway Feed, Jim Stransky at Remax Territory, JNR Paving, Joe’s Towing, Kern Funeral Home, La Conner Hair Design, Pacific Blanket Trading Post, Leaded Coffee Company, Peoples Bank, Pioneer Potatoes, Skagit’s Own Fish Market, and Skagit Shooting Range,

Tonight’s webcast will feature former La Conner Braves assistant coach and youth coach Dustin Swanson, who will add unique analysis and insight that only a 10-year assistant to head coach Novak knows, with La Conner scout and coach Novak’s cousin Rick Bryant also contributing commentary and stats to veteran broadcaster John Fasso’s play-by-play.
