Lynden – Breyden Moore’s two overtime steals both led to lay-ins that lifted the Mount Vernon Bulldogs to a 49-41 win over the Lions Friday night in Lynden. Trailing 37-32 entering the fourth quarter, Mount Vernon came back by limiting the Lions to just four points in the fourth quarter and followed that effort with an overtime shutout.
Moore, a senior guard, paced Mount Vernon in the four minute overtime period, scoring six of the Bulldog’s eight points. Seniors David Taylor and Ray Walser led Mount Vernon in scoring with nine points each. The win was the third straight for the Bulldogs, who raised their season record to 5 – 3. Mount Vernon will host Sehome Tuesday, January 13 at 7:30 pm.
Lynden senior Trenton McKee was nearly unstoppable in scoring 20 points through three quarters, but was held to four points in the final 12 minutes and led all scorers with 24 points. After winning four of their first five games, the Lions have lost two of three and are 5 – 3 overall. Lynden is scheduled to play at Anacortes, Wednesday, January 14 at 7:30 pm.

Both the Tigers and the Lions are undefeated in NWC play and a top playoff seeding is at stake in this game. The winner will get an extra day of rest before taking on the winner of the Granite Falls/Squalicum “Play-In” game next Tuesday, November 4th.
Lynden will throw slants, screens and bombs downfield – anything to get the ball downfield in the air. It’ll be up to the Tiger secondary to tip passes away or intercept the ball to control the ball and the clock. Lynden is famous for clock management and methodically managing first downs through the air.
The Tigers will try to run the ball past Lynden’s Taylor Creighton, who is on the verge of becoming Lynden’s all-time leader in tackles. Injuries have hit B-E’s roster with a number of key players as game-time decision, including Stetson Shearer and Troy O’Neill.
