DEMING – Advanced Toys for Trucks night at Deming Speedway featured some high speed hi-jinks at the front of the field. Aaron Fell cruised to victory in the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division. And it was, of all things, the dice roll for invert that may have made the biggest difference. While rolling the dice for invert, a track official made contact with the dice, causing Aaron’s initial roll of a 4 to be nullified. On the second roll, Fell hit snakeyes, giving his already ultra quick car the advantage of starting on the pole. After clearing Derek Holmwood on the first lap, it was academic for Fell who collected his fifth win of the year. Eric Drake finished second. Steven Hendrickson was third. Kyle Johnson, Jason Bloodgood and Clennon Holloway won heat races.

Kyle Johnson rode the momentum he’s built up over the midpoint of the season, taking home another win in the Speedmart PMP 600 class. After race leader Greg Hamilton and Spud Allen made contact on lap two and exited the race, Johnson took over the lead and easily finished off the race without challenge. Brandon Turner was second and JR Thomas was third. Cody Ridge, Thomas, Kyle Oman and Jake Benson won the heats. Dustin O’Brien was quick time.

Dougie James collected another win in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted division. After race leader Austin Sheridan and second place Liam Ryan were collected in a spin out with lapped traffic, James assumed the lead and rolled to the victory. James’ teammate, Jacob Brown, finished in the runner up spot with Rachel Westmoreland taking a career best third. Westmoreland, Sheridan and Sawyer Lind were heat race winners. Nate Vaughn set fast time.

Isaac Abenroth won his third main event of the year and second in a row in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints. Abenroth led all 15 laps of the main, running in the memory of his fallen classmate Grace. Ashleigh Johnson was second and Dylan Resch ended up third, after starting eighth. Tristin Thomas and Resch won heats and Resch was quick time.

Reece Wickard took home the gold in the Kasey Kahne Juniors Division on 7/23

Reece Wickard took home the gold in the Kasey Kahne Juniors Division on 7/23

DEMING – Eric Drake put on an absolute clinic in the 1200 Division at Deming Speedway on Triple X Race Co night. Other winners included Jake Benson, Liam Ryan and Reece Wickard.

Like a skilled surgeon, Eric Drake sliced and cut with pinpoint precision en route to his third victory of the year in the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division. After taking the lead from Frosty Metcalf on lap 2, Drake led the remaining laps of the race to take the victory, followed by Tom Waggoner and Aaron Fell. Waggoner gave Drake a small challenge on a late race restart, but Drake knew exactly where to put his car for maximum speed and held off the challenge to take the W. Heat wins belonged to Brad Davison, Clennon Holloway and Jason Bloodgood. Eric Turner set quick time.

Jake Benson finally overcame his mechanical gremlins to win the main event in the Speedmart PMP 600s. Benson led every lap of the main event after setting quick time. JR Thomas raced his way to finish second, closing on Benson in the late laps but unable to get close enough to make his move. Dustin O’Brien was third. Heat wins went to Hayden Schmidt, Shaun Holtorf, Liam Ryan and Kyle Oman.

What more can be said about Liam Ryan in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted division? Ryan won his unprecedented 8th main event of his rookie year, making him 8 for 11 in feature wins in his debut season at Deming Speedway. Robie Price was second and Dougie James was third. Heat wins went to Jacob Brown, Tanner Reid and Nate Vaughn. Price set quick time.

Reece Wickard returned to Deming Speedway in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints with a victory. Substituting for an injured Spencer Constance, Wickard took an early lead and was never seriously challenged as he visited victory lane for the first time in 2010. Lynden Lebedinski took a career best second with teammate Kyle Mitchell third. Tristin Thomas was quick time. Heat winners were Wickard and Mitchell.
