6 run 6th inning dooms Tigers against Archbishop Murphy

tigerlogo100BELLINGHAM-  The Burlington-Edison Tigers season came to an end today at the hands of the 20-3 Archbishop Murphy Wildcats/  The teams played it close until the bottom of the sixth inning when Archbishop Murphy put up six runs including a pair of two RBI doubles to put the game out of reach for the Tigers 8-2.

The Wildcats will advance to face W.F. West in the first Semi-Final game at 4:00 PM next Friday at County Stadium in Yakima.   In the other Semi-Final game Selah will take on R.A. Long of Longview.   The winners will play for the WIAA 2A Title on Saturday at 7:00 PM while the losers play for third and fourth place at 1:00 PM on Saturday.

Wildcats dominate the Lakewood Cougars 42-20

SMOKEY POINT - The Archbishop Murphy Wildcats continued to smash Cascade Conference competition, beating the Lakewood Cougars 42-20 Friday night in Lakewood. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference. The Lakewood Cougars have last their last four games and have fallen to 0-4 in conference and 2-4 overall.

Murphy benefited from a strong ground game led by running back Alex Martinez. Martinez contributed 122 yards on the ground on 11 carries and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Austin VanderWel chipped in with 2 rushing touchdowns on 8 carries. In total, the Wildcats amassed 347 yards on 47 carries and scored five rushing touchdowns.

The defense for Archbishop Murphy harassed Lakewood quarterback Justin Lane all night, never allowing Lane to get comfortable in the pocket. Lane finished 17 for 33 with 251 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Lakewood travels to Coupeville next Friday while Archbishop Murphy will host the undefeated Cedarcrest Wolves.

*** Burlington-Edison boys headed back to state *** Tigers defeat Sehome 73-61 in 2A District Tournament

BELLINGHAM – The Burlngton-Edison boys basketball team secured a state tournament berth with a 73-61 over the Sehome Mariners Saturday night at the 2A District One tournament at Squalicum High.  The Tigers will face Squalicum in the district championship game Friday, March 6th at 7:45 p.m.
