ALGER – It was an interesting night at Skagit Speedway as Kasey Kahne returned for a one night event to benefit his charitable foundation by taking on some of the top 360 Sprint drivers from Skagit Speedway and around the Northwest. Kahne won the 20 lap A Main over Seth Bergman and Austen Wheatley, who had earlier posted the fastest 360 Sprint lap in track history in his heat race.

The evening was marred by a power failure that knocked out the track lights on the back straightaway as well as a crash involving SkagitRadio.com football analyst Bud Ashe. During his heat race, Ashe slammed the wall between turns 1 and 2 after he appeared to break his rear axel and lost his right rear wheel getting into the corner. Ashe was removed from his car on a backboard and left the track in an ambulance. Track announcer and broadcast partner Kaleb Hart reported that Ashe had suffered a broken hand but was conscious and in good spirits.

DEMING – North Coast Credit Union Night at Deming Speedway saw the many employees of NCCU enjoying great racing. Repeat winners triumphed in all 4 divisions, with Tom Waggoner winning the 1200s, Jake Benson winning the 600s, Lima Ryan besting the 600r class and Isaac Abenroth on top again in the Junior Sprints.

Tom Waggoner used lapped traffic to his advantage, making a late race pass on Kyle Johnson stick amongst a throng of lapped traffic to pick up another win in the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200s. Waggoner ran down Johnson around mid race, then powered underneath him around lap 18 to take the point and eventually the win. Johnson would exit soon after with rear end damage. Aaron Fell finished second with Jason Bloodgood third. Eric Turner, Eric Drake and DJ Kosa won heats. Waggoner was quick time.

Jake Benson celebrated his 20th birthday in style, winning his second feature of the year in the Speedmart PMP 600 division. Benson led all 25 laps with Kyle Johnson hot on his heals the whole race. Benson and Johnson were followed to the line by Brandon Benson. George Shufelt, JR Thomas, Joe Constance and Dustin O’Brien won heats. Johnson set fast time.

Liam Ryan won his ninth feature of the year in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted class. Ryan took the lead on a lap 5 restart from second place finisher Sawyer Lind on his way to the win. Lind scored his career best finish in second with Austin Sheridan taking third. Skyler Pawlowicz, Rachel Westmoreland and Sheridan won the heats. Dougie James was quick time.

Isaac Abenroth was back in victory lane after a one week reprieve in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints. Abenroth and Kyle Mitchell slugged it out over the middle portion of the race, with Abenroth eventually taking the lead and streaking away to his third win over the past four contests. Tristin Thomas was second and Mitchell third. Ashleigh Johnson and Thomas were heat winners. Spencer Constance was quick time.

DEMING – Advanced Toys for Trucks night at Deming Speedway featured some high speed hi-jinks at the front of the field. Aaron Fell cruised to victory in the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division. And it was, of all things, the dice roll for invert that may have made the biggest difference. While rolling the dice for invert, a track official made contact with the dice, causing Aaron’s initial roll of a 4 to be nullified. On the second roll, Fell hit snakeyes, giving his already ultra quick car the advantage of starting on the pole. After clearing Derek Holmwood on the first lap, it was academic for Fell who collected his fifth win of the year. Eric Drake finished second. Steven Hendrickson was third. Kyle Johnson, Jason Bloodgood and Clennon Holloway won heat races.

Kyle Johnson rode the momentum he’s built up over the midpoint of the season, taking home another win in the Speedmart PMP 600 class. After race leader Greg Hamilton and Spud Allen made contact on lap two and exited the race, Johnson took over the lead and easily finished off the race without challenge. Brandon Turner was second and JR Thomas was third. Cody Ridge, Thomas, Kyle Oman and Jake Benson won the heats. Dustin O’Brien was quick time.

Dougie James collected another win in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted division. After race leader Austin Sheridan and second place Liam Ryan were collected in a spin out with lapped traffic, James assumed the lead and rolled to the victory. James’ teammate, Jacob Brown, finished in the runner up spot with Rachel Westmoreland taking a career best third. Westmoreland, Sheridan and Sawyer Lind were heat race winners. Nate Vaughn set fast time.

Isaac Abenroth won his third main event of the year and second in a row in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints. Abenroth led all 15 laps of the main, running in the memory of his fallen classmate Grace. Ashleigh Johnson was second and Dylan Resch ended up third, after starting eighth. Tristin Thomas and Resch won heats and Resch was quick time.

ALGER – With his mother pacing the aisles and his car owner sitting on his hands in the grandstands, Travis Jacobson finally collected the big check he’s been angling at for a long time. Jacobson led all 40 laps of the 2010 Bob’s Burgers & Brew 360 Nationals at Skagit Speedway presented by Goodyear aboard the Shaylen Raye #18r Eagle, scoring a cool $10,000 for his efforts.

Jacobson started outside row one after finishing second in the A Scramble to Roger Crockett. On the start of the feature, Jacobson went wheel to wheel with Crockett through turns one and two, edging him out coming out of the second turn, then slamming the door shut going into turn three.

A handful of restarts for flipped and spun cars later, and it was Jacobson taking the victory without serious challenge at the completion of 40 laps. “That initial start was everything”, said Jacobson on the podium. “If we don’t beat Roger on that first lap, I didn’t know that we could catch him”.

Crockett would trail from a distance in second till about the halfway point of the race when he retired with unspecified mechanical woes. When action resumed, Chad Hillier picked his way forward through the field from his 11th place starting position to lay claim to the runner up spot in the Les Schwab #4 J&J.

Shawn Rice also picked his way forward through the field, navigating from 10th to take 3rd in his NW Welding & Fabrication #76 KPC. Other notable runs included Jared Peterson who recovered from a flip Friday night to finish 5th after starting 15th and Jesse Whitney who came from the B Main and a 17th place A Main start to take 7th.

Mack Brown won the B Feature. Scrambles went to Roger Crockett and Jesse Whitney.

Rece Goetz was impressive again at Skagit Speedway, winning his second Ford Focus Midget main of the year at the 3/10 mile clay oval. After Dustin O’Brien led lap one, Goetz found speed on the middle groove and launched past him to take the point on lap two. The win for Goetz capped a month of podium victories, as he had previously scored Deming Speedway’s 600 Clay Cup title. O’Brien hung on for second and Garrett Johnson was third.

The race capped off the initial Washington State Racing Series for the Ford Focus Midgets and at the conclusion, Seth Hespe was awarded the inaugural series championship.

ALGER – Josh Dewitt won the opening night of the Bob’s Burgers & Brew 360 Nationals presented by Goodyear. Dewitt started on the pole and settled in to second as Henry Van Dam took the initial point. Dewitt kept HVD close and made his move at the start of lap 7, diving to the inside of turn one, then sliding up in front of Henry coming out of two to complete the pass. Van Dam returned the favor going into turn three, executing his own slidejob, but Dewitt countered with a cross under coming out of turn four, beating HVD to the transponder loop to secure the lead.

From there, Josh gradually opened up his advantage, cruising home to the checkered flag on lap 30 in the Dirt Inc. #5d Maxim. Travis Jacobson moved forward to secure the second spot in the Rallye Auto Sales #18r Eagle. Van Dam was third in the Van Dam Dairy #33 Maxim. Two time Dirt Cup champion Jayme Barnes had a perfect night going after setting quick time and winning the first heat race, but it all ended up in disaster as Barnes and Jared Peterson tangled with a slowing Jesse Whitney on lap 14 with the result being a destroyed Henderson Motorsports #7n car and relegating Jayme to last place in the A main. Other heat race winners were Roger Crockett, Jason Solwold, Casey Adams and Jacobson. Chad Hillier won the B feature.

Seth Hespe put the Brownfield family back in victory lane for the first time in over a decade at Skagit Speedway, as Seth led all 20 laps of the Ford Focus Midget A Feature. Driving the Skagit Speedway sponsored #92 XXX, Hespe was perfect in clicking off consistent, fast laps around the high groove. Garrett Johnson of Poulsbo was second and former Skagit Speedway Sportsmen Sprint Rookie of the Year Gaylon Stewart was third. Johnson won the heat.

Travis Jacobson and Roger Crockett sit atop the points heading into Saturday night’s $10,000 to win 40 lap A Feature. A full field run down will be available on www.skagitspeedway.com

DEMING – Eric Drake put on an absolute clinic in the 1200 Division at Deming Speedway on Triple X Race Co night. Other winners included Jake Benson, Liam Ryan and Reece Wickard.

Like a skilled surgeon, Eric Drake sliced and cut with pinpoint precision en route to his third victory of the year in the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division. After taking the lead from Frosty Metcalf on lap 2, Drake led the remaining laps of the race to take the victory, followed by Tom Waggoner and Aaron Fell. Waggoner gave Drake a small challenge on a late race restart, but Drake knew exactly where to put his car for maximum speed and held off the challenge to take the W. Heat wins belonged to Brad Davison, Clennon Holloway and Jason Bloodgood. Eric Turner set quick time.

Jake Benson finally overcame his mechanical gremlins to win the main event in the Speedmart PMP 600s. Benson led every lap of the main event after setting quick time. JR Thomas raced his way to finish second, closing on Benson in the late laps but unable to get close enough to make his move. Dustin O’Brien was third. Heat wins went to Hayden Schmidt, Shaun Holtorf, Liam Ryan and Kyle Oman.

What more can be said about Liam Ryan in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted division? Ryan won his unprecedented 8th main event of his rookie year, making him 8 for 11 in feature wins in his debut season at Deming Speedway. Robie Price was second and Dougie James was third. Heat wins went to Jacob Brown, Tanner Reid and Nate Vaughn. Price set quick time.

Reece Wickard returned to Deming Speedway in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints with a victory. Substituting for an injured Spencer Constance, Wickard took an early lead and was never seriously challenged as he visited victory lane for the first time in 2010. Lynden Lebedinski took a career best second with teammate Kyle Mitchell third. Tristin Thomas was quick time. Heat winners were Wickard and Mitchell.
