Lions & Kyler Howell run wild against La Conner

by Wade Tonkin on October 31, 2009

CONCRETE – Kyler Howell rushed 18 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns as the Concrete Lions defended their home turf on Senior Night, downing the visiting La Conner Braves 33-20 in Northwest 2B high school football action Friday night.

Concrete’s offense ran the ball for close to 350 yards, with Howell’s explosive carries between the tackles leading the charge. Concrete led the Braves during the entire game.

For La Conner, Brandon Drye led all Braves rushers with 120 yards on 18 carries. The bulk of those yards came in the second half when La Conner switched to a shotgun-spread formation, opening up the middle of the football field for Drye to bulldoze ahead. La Conner moved the ball well all night, but penalties inside the redzone hurt the Braves as they had two touchdowns taken off the board as a result of infractions.

Concrete will play a NWB league rematch with the Darrington Loggers at Darrington in a game that will be heard here on SkagitRadio.com on Thursday night. Join Kaleb Hart and Bud Ashe on the call at 6:30 p.m., November 5th.
