LYNDEN – Tiger hitters feasted on Blaine pitching, sending 20 hitters to the plate in the first inning and taking a 14-0 lead into the second. This gave Tiger coach Darcy Taylor the chance to rest some regulars as a number of freshman and sophomore reserves were able to see action in the last 3 innings.
Tiger second starter Brie Lopez turned in 5 strong innings for the win. Offensive stars included right fielder Ashlynn Ishikawa who had a triple and a double for 3 RBI in the first inning and 2 additional singles. Lindsay Dawson also clubbed a 3 RBI triple from the designated player spot before taking a seat on the bench.
Amanda Richards struggled with her control issuing 6 walks and her location hanging too many pitches high in the strike zone for Tiger hitters. Both Burlington-Edison and Blaine were throwing their second starters as Tiger ace Lindsay Dawson and Borderites ace Caitlin Dudley pitched in the first game of the day.
The game was called after the 5th inning due to the ten run rule – which in tournament play states that the game will be halted if either team leads by more than 10 runs after 5 innings are complete. The Tigers ten-runned Blaine in their matchup during the regular season as well.
The Tigers now await the announcement of their seeding in the State 2A Tournament to be held next weekend in Selah.
