BURLINGTON – Lindsey Dawson threw a pair of wild pitches in the first inning, which led to a rare early run given up by the Tiger ace, then settled down to throw a two-hitter while striking out 15 in leading the Tigers to an 8-1 victory over Lynden Christian Thursday in the final regular season Northwest Conference girls’ fastpitch softball game.
Once Dawson locked in her control, the Tiger bats came to life, with Amy Entrikin smashing a solo home run and catcher Jessica Tingley driving in runs with a pair of triples, both to deep right field. Rachelle Berry also added a triple for Burlington-Edison. The Tigers scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings, applying constant pressure on Lyncs’ starter Taylor Bichle.
With the victory, the Lady Tigers clinched the No. 1 seed into the 2A District One tournament next week in Lynden, finishing the regular season with an 11-2 conference record, 15-5 overall, while the Lady Lyncs saw their NWC record fall to 6-6 and are 9-6 overall.
