About SkagitRadio.com

Since launching in July of 2008, SkagitRadio.com has been dedicated to providing the very best in live sports coverage of Skagit County high schools, featuring Burlington-Edison, Concrete, Darrington, La Conner, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley, and their opponents.

SkagitRadio.com is the result of a group of long-time broadcasters from Skagit County deciding that area sports fans deserve professional coverage and quality play-by-play of a wider variety of high school sports than “local” broadcasters have provided in recent years.

Kris Drake, founder of SkagitRadio.com, is a graduate of Western Washington University and Burlington-Edison High School. Kris had worked at KBRC, KLKI and KPUG in the late-’80s and ’90s before his entrepreneurship led him to discover the potential to bring both local boys’ and girls’ high school sports to the masses on the worldwide web in early 2008. Kris provides play-by-play of football, wrestling, baseball and fast-pitch softball, and brought all the action of the B-EHS Tigers girls’ fast-pitch 2A state championship in the spring of 2009.

To quickly establish success with his start-up endeavor, Drake employed the following for their individual talents (and the rest is history):

SkagitRadio.com acquired John Fasso as the lead play-by-play voice for football and basketball. A respected and well-known veteran of print, radio, local cable TV, and now internet news and sports reporting, John’s resume’ includes play-by-play of auto racing, baseball, basketball, football, softball, track and field, and wrestling. John brought you all the action of the B-EHS Tigers run to the state 2A football title in the fall of 2008, the state tournament games of both the 2B La Conner boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from Spokane and the state tournament games of both the 2A Burlington-Edison boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from Yakima in the spring of 2009.

Working to webcast a wider variety of sports, SkagitRadio.com delivers coverage of sports previously ignored by area radio stations, including live play-by-play of baseball, fast-pitch softball, girls’ basketball, and boys’ and girls’ wrestling, all of which had either never aired locally or hadn’t been heard since John originally broadcast those sports in the 1990’s.

Wade Tonkin, a graduate of Mount Vernon High School, is general manager and webmaster of SkagitRadio.com. Wade is co-founder of GTO Management, which specializes in performance-based online marketing, and also provides commentary of football and play-by-play of girls’ fast-pitch softball on SkagitRadio.com, of which he covered the 2009 Sedro-Woolley Cubs team through the 3A state tournament last spring.

Scot Buchanan joins SkagitRadio.com after several years away from the valley, re-uniting in the booth with John for our football webcasts. A University of Washington and B-EHS alum, Scot will also provide excellent play-by-play of boys’ and girls’ basketball.

Fred Lee will make his Internet debut this winter as the color analyst teamed with Scot Buchanan primarily, and with John Fasso on additional basketball games. Lee has been a local AAU basketball coach in Mount Vernon for years and is considered an expert on the game of basketball. He will bring his expertise to webcasts on SkagitRadio.com and we hope his legions of followers will enjoy his commentary. We also hope that he finds new fans in the rest of the world (outside a 6-mile radius of Mount Vernon!) that couldn’t hear his games before. Welcome Fred!

Matt Henggeler joined SkagitRadio.com in the winter of 2009 with spot appearances on basketball commentary. Matt now is heard sharing the booth as Dan Guiliani’s brilliant color analyst on football games in Snohomish County. Matt and Dan will team up this winter for prep hoop games in Snohomish County.

Dan Guiliani joined SkagitRadio.com in the fall of 2009 as part of an effort between SkagitRadio.com and KJR-AM 950, Guiliani’s main employer. Dan interned on the Mitch in the Morning show on KJR, but at night helps fill out the SkagitRadio.com play-by-play roster by grooming his talents on prep football games in Snohomish County.

Jay Alexander joined SkagitRadio.com in the fall of 2009, as well, as part of our expansion to the north – Whatcom County. Jay is a long-time broadcaster, originally from KARI 550 AM in Blaine, and late of KPUG. Jay’s entrenched followers have rediscovered his voice on SkagitRadio.com as he’s been following prep teams mainly in the north of Whatcom County. Jay’s engaging play-by-play is both entertaining and dead-on in both football and his specialty, basketball.

Dale Sharp is a package deal with Jay Alexander and has been serving as Jay’s color analyst for over 15 years. Both Jay and “Sharpie” are experts of the game of basketball and their experience in broadcasting, blended with their experience as players, make them a great team to listen to while they call the biggest game in Whatcom County week after week.

Advertising packages with SkagitRadio.com are customized for your business to reach customers locally and globally. We welcome businesses of any size and have priced our packages accordingly. Sponsorships include a combination of professionally produced spots, website ads, business recognition in webcast billboards, and live “thank you’s”.

SkagitRadio.com offers an exclusive feature unavailable from any other advertising media, with sponsors having a lifetime presence on our webcasts via our archived games and free downloads of those archives to PC’s, iPods and CD’s.  While virtually all other broadcast and Internet media sell copies of their broadcasts or require paid membership to their website, SkagitRadio.com offers all content, downloads and webcasts free!
